Who's who

OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM

Leaders Chris and Sandra Pell

Sandra and Chris have been attending for over ten years, along with their children Caleb and Erin. Both Caleb and Erin are now at university and pop back in to see their JOY Place friends when they can. Sandra works with children with special educational needs, and Chris works in cyber security.
Fun fact: Sandra grew up with (JOY Place legends) Chuck and Anita’s children in the Philippines!

Toby and Elizabeth have recently  joined us as leaders, replacing Hunter and Amberle who have returned to the USA where Hunter has a new job in Texas.  Toby and Elizabeth were married in Oxford in July 2025.

David is part of the ministry team in Cumnor parish. He has retired from teaching New Testament in colleges in India, Oxford and Bristol.  He is married to Clare and has two married sons, two daughters-in-law,
six grandchildren and a small dog.

Grace and Clare look after the refreshments after services, and Grace sometimes gives the Bible talk.

Others also take part in services, and sometimes we have visiting speakers.

MUSICIANS

We have a number of musicians who play for our singing, including twins Margaret and Rosemary on the Paraguayan harps, Elizabeth on the guitar, Caleb on the piano, and sometimes a band on special occasions. Last Christmas  we enjoyed a visit from the Gospel Jazz Band.  and we hope they are coming again this year.

Former leaders and JOY Place founders Matt and Jenny

JOY Place started in 2010 through the vision of Chuck and Anita, and Matt and Jenny. The first meetings were in a different St Andrew's, in north Oxford.  It was the first of its kind in Oxford.

Chuck and Anita (with Buddy the dog) have now retired to California but they keep in touch with us, and enjoy hearing about JOY Place. Matt and Jenny are still around but they are taking a break to spend more time with their family.
